As you consider the title of today’s challenge, “This Moment Is All You Have” you will most likely be responding in one of two ways. Many will almost immediately think something to the effect of “Well, that seems pessimistic.” Others will be challenged in a liberating sense and think, “Then I am going to make the most of it.”
In reality, life is made up of moments. Look throughout scripture. The illustrations of God’s handiwork among men are shown through pivotal moments. Consider the life of Christ as recorded in the gospels. Each writer focused in on moments. In much the same way, when we recall our past, we do not tend toward remembering entire days, but our thoughts go to moments.
As a leader, your thoughts are vitally important. A good leader will focus his/her thoughts. God, Himself, addresses this important issue in scripture to help direct us toward what will be beneficial for both our lives and the lives of those to whom we minister. Consider Philippians 4:8’s direct challenge for us to keep our thoughts aligned with the goodness and character of God. Consider 2 Corinthians 10:5’s command to forcibly control our thoughts by taking them captive and making them obedient to Christ.
So, why are your thoughts so important? Scientific studies estimate that you will have between 50,000 to 60,000 thoughts today. Of those thoughts, almost 90% of them will be the same as those of yesterday. Moreover, upwards of 75% of those thoughts will be negative.
When you carefully consider the amount of negative thoughts you have and then reflect on Proverbs 23:7 which says, “For as a man thinks in his heart, so he is,” you will quickly recognize the importance of changing your thoughts this very moment.
This moment is all you have. This moment is your opportunity to change your thoughts. This moment is your open door to redirect the thoughts of your heart so that they align with God’s direction for your life. Make the most of this moment. It may become one of those moments you will reflect upon for years to come!
