Are You A Hurting Pastor?

Are you hurting? Now, I’m not necessarily talking about physical pain, but that can indeed be a side effect of emotional, social, and even spiritual stress factors.  Are you hurting from calloused remarks from one of your parishioners? Are you hurting from insensitive attitudes toward your calling from others in leadership? Are you hurting from a workload that appears to be overwhelming? Are you hurting in your familial relationships? Are you hurting because you have experienced loss — a loss of family, finances, security, position, direction? Are you hurting because you have pushed yourself to the limits and feel there is nothing more you can give?

What Is Holding You Back?

Have you ever come to a place where you felt like you were quickly getting nowhere? I’m sure you know the old cliché about “spinning your wheels” and have most likely felt like you were time and time again. All of us, at one time or another, find ourselves putting forth much effort and seeing very little, if any, results.

Well, if you are feeling that way now, do not be discouraged. As hard as it may seem, you must continue to press forward! There is one simple word that summarizes what you need to do to experience a breakthrough – Diligence!

I am reminded of a scripture in 2 Peter that says, “Give diligence to make your calling sure.” And also remember Proverbs says, “diligent hands bring wealth”, “diligent hands will rule” and “desires of the diligent are fully satisfied.” What exactly are these verses telling you about your success in ministry? I want to challenge you with this simple and yet profound thought! Most ideas come by inspiration not calculation.

Are you an inspired  minister? Or, maybe you feel the inspired has expired. Take a long look at yourself today. From where are your inspirations for ministry coming?
